In the Twin Rivers Unified School District, there were 140 new HVAC units that had yet to be installed. They sat idle in storage for years while students shivered in their cold classrooms across the district.
Parents and teachers have voiced their concerns about the temperatures in the classroom because of the broken cooling and heating equipment. Especially as the temperatures have dropped during the fall and winter months, there has been a call for something to be done.
Since the beginning of the year, the district has worked to fix or replace these HVAC units. The community just doesn’t understand why it has taken years to install them. While the previous administrators claimed there were not enough funds to complete the installations, overall it has cost the district $17,000 just to store them since October 2012.
Now, the district has set aside some money to complete the job and to address any heating and cooling repair needs in the future.
